The Enchant Your Day blog series is all about finding the magic in every single day, no matter how chaotic, mundane or “stuck” life can feel. It’s a movement to celebrate the things that still us, calm us and mystify us. These thoughts and photographs feature suggestions for living an enchanted life.

Autumn has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere… the dawn of a new season. A season normally related to endings – the end of Summer and the end of the cycle of life for things growing in the Earth.

But I always see Autumn as more of a beginning. Maybe because I was born in the Fall. Or maybe because that’s when a new school year always started. But I think I see it as a beginning because I feel so inspired around this time of year.

I grew up in Northeast Ohio where Autumn cloaks the Earth in deep yellows, oranges and reds. As a photographer and digital artist, it was my favorite time to break out the polarizing filter for my camera so that the colors in my photos would come out rich and vibrant. My friends and I would go out in nature and do ethereal photo shoots within this beautiful landscape. So inspiring.

The colors, maybe that’s it. But they fade so fast and fall to the ground in a matter of weeks. Still, it feels like a beginning.

A Season of Beginnings

I started a lot of my jobs in the Fall. I even left my favorite job around this time 8 years ago to finish my Bachelor’s Degree in digital communication & marketing and to gain some experience in web design jobs. This is also when my journey as a solo freelance web & graphic designer began. I haven’t looked back since.

I started my business here in the UK a year ago this week! Creatively Designed has been the best decision I have ever made for my career. It took awhile to “brand” what I do because I am so busy creating brands for other people, but now that I’ve finally done it, it’s opened so many doors for me.

I truly love what I do, and am doing what I love. Even though I’ve been at this for 8 years, this past year I have stretched these creative and technical muscles in ways I never thought I could. I designed 10 new websites. That’s almost one website per month! (one new website project per month was a goal of mine that I made when I first began this journey full-time). I’ve gained some wonderful new clients and business owner friends who have inspired me to keep working hard.

So I guess this is why I see Autumn as a beginning rather than an ending. I’ve started a lot of things in the Fall. It’s a time of introspection and idea manifesting. A time that allows for more…time!…to implement these ideas.

This Autumn and Winter I plan to begin working on something new, for you. Thank you so much for your feedback and readership. Thank you for being a member of my list. Your participation has enabled me to see some of the problems you are facing as a small or solo business owner. 1. I love this! It was last October that I gave birth to the beginnings of my current business. This year, I was told that “things would change in autumn,” and I can feel the shift as I start to gain momentum.

    • Rachel, happy business anniversary to you! Wishing you lots of momentum and growth this Autumn.
